The US aims to launch a website called freedom.gov to let people in Europe (and possibly beyond) see online content that's currently blocked due to the Digital Services Act (DSA) that forces a safer online space in EU by holding digital platforms—particularly “Very Large Online Platforms” (VLOPs) such as Google, Amazon, Meta and X—accountable for removal of ¨illegal¨ or harmful content quickly and report risks like misinformation. Non-compliant platforms could be fined up to 6% of their global annual turnover. For VLOPs, this means billions of euros. If a platform repeatedly fails to comply with the DSA, the EU Commission can even impose a temporary or permanent ban.
